The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, Shannon Pawley, Provides An Overview of Georgia’s Transfer on Death Deed

Shannon Pawley, The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, explains the benefits and limitations of Georgia’s Transfer on Death Deed, a legal tool to help those with modest estates transfer real estate and avoid probate.

DECATUR, GA, September 12, 2025: Shannon Pawley, Owner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new blog on the law firm’s website entitledAn Overview of Georgia’s Transfer on Death Deed” in which Ms. Pawley goes over the benefits and minor limitations.

Pawley announces, “The state of Georgia has a relatively new legal tool that allows property owners to transfer real estate directly to a designated beneficiary upon their death.” She continues, “It’s called the Transfer on Death (TOD) Deed and came into effect July 1, 2024.”

As Pawley notes, “One major advantage of the TOD Deed is that it avoids the time and expense of probate, making it an attractive estate planning option for individuals with modest estates. It can also,” she states, “help prevent family disputes, since the beneficiary designation is clear and legally binding.” And, according to Pawley, “A second major advantage is that the TOD allows owners to retain full control of their property while they are alive, giving beneficiaries a simpler way to inherit.”
