Shannon Pawley, The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, guides readers through the common myths that prevent many people from getting Medicaid for their long-term health care needs.

DECATUR, GA, June 20, 2025: Shannon Pawley, Owner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new article on the law firm’s website entitledMedicaid Myths: Why You Don’t Have to Spend It All to Get Help.” Ms. Pawley makes it clear that with the proper guidance, many people who thought otherwise can become eligible for Medicaid whether they’ve planned in advance or are in a crisis situation.

Pawley states, “Some of the most common myths about Medicaid prevent people from getting the long-term care they need.” She elaborates, “While there are some people who believe Medicaid will automatically be available to them when they need it, there are others who believe they must spend all their assets to get the care they need.” She emphasizes, “Both of those beliefs are false. “ As Pawley points out, “Medicaid planning is more nuanced—and with proper guidance, many people can get the help they need when facing the high cost of log-term care due to progressive illnesses like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, without losing everything. My objective here is to demystify the four most common myths surrounding Medicaid eligibility.”

The first myth, which is that one must be completely broke to qualify for Medicaid, according to Pawley, “is one of the most damaging misconceptions.”  Pawley writes, “While Medicaid does have strict income and asset limits, not all assets are counted against you. For example,” she adds, “your primary residence (up to a certain equity limit), a car, personal belongings, and even certain prepaid burial arrangements are typically exempt.”
