The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Managing Partner, Shannon Pawley, Educates Readers About The Importance Of Having Legal Powers Of Attorneys Documents.

Estate & Asset Protection Attorney and Managing Partner, Shannon Pawley, considers having Powers Of Attorneys as important as having identification documents like driver’s licenses.

DECATUR, GA, April 26, 2021: Shannon Pawley, Managing Partner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new article on the law firm’s website entitled “The Risks Anyone 18+ Takes By Not Having Powers Of Attorneys.” Ms. Pawley states that, “Most people don’t think about Powers of Attorneys until something goes very wrong.” She then adds, “Usually that is too late.”

According to Pawley, “The value of assigning Powers of Attorneys for anyone who is 18 years of age and above are invaluable. And the risks of not having them are greater than you can imagine.”

“So,” says Pawley, “if I were giving out instruction manuals at birth, there would be a section for when anyone turns 18 speaking specifically for the need to have Powers of Attorneys drawn up.” She emphasizes, “It would be as mandatory as having a driver’s license. But,” she continues, “I don’t have that role, so my best effort is to educate my clients, prospective clients and anyone who asks to the importance of having this legal document in place before a need for it arises. And if the need never arises, so much the better.”

A Most Powerful Legal Document That Concerns Itself With Your Desires

According to Pawley assigning a Power of Attorney is “a most powerful legal document that concerns itself with your desires.” She goes on to write that, “Aging and dementia are not the only reasons to have a Power of Attorney. Accidents happen every day in our world, to people of every age.” She elaborates, “When children under the age of 18 are in an accident or become ill, his or her parents or legal guardians make important decisions regarding their medical care. But once a person turns 18, they are legally an adult and if something were to happen to severely impair their cognitive abilities, not even their parents would be allowed to legally intervene and make decisions on their behalf.”

As Pawley makes clear, “The power of attorney is a powerful legal document. What makes it so powerful and important is that it gives tremendous authority to another person.” She explains, “Depending on the type of Powers of Attorney you have assigned, this person could have the right to access your bank accounts and to make decisions for you. Because this person does have a great deal of authority, you must be very judicious in making such an important decision. It is especially important and essential document to have when a loved one is in declining health.”

Shannon is the firm’s Managing Partner.  Born and raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia to a tightknit family with strong military service roots, Shannon learned from an early age the value of hard work and the importance of social awareness to ensure you always leave a situation in a better place than how you entered it.  In her junior year of high school, Shannon served as U.S. House of Representatives Page during the 101st United States Congressional Session in Washington, D.C.  This experience exposed her to numerous new cultures and worldly issues.  Walking away from her experience as a U.S. House of Representative Page, Shannon knew that she wanted to pursue legal studies and be able to assist others in obtaining the best results available in difficult situations.

Shannon earned her undergraduate degree at North Carolina Wesleyan College and pursued a law degree from Michigan State University College of Law.  After obtaining her law degree and becoming a licensed attorney in Michigan, she continued her educational pursuit by acquiring a LL.M.
