The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Founder, Victoria L Collier, Urges Adult Children Caregivers To Protect Their Parents From Scammers
Estate & Asset Protection Attorney, Victoria Collier relates statistics that show how vulnerable bored and lonely seniors are to criminal scammers and encourages adult children to make as much time as possible to spend with their parents to keep them from becoming victims.
DECATUR, GA, May 21, 2019: Victoria L. Collier, founder of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new blog on her law firm’s website entitled “Protect Aging Parents From Scams,” In which Ms. Collier poses her opinion that aging parents need to be protected from becoming victims of scammers.
Collier writes, “We live in a digital world and a world of technologically advanced scam artists who are always at the ready to take advantage of the naïve and unsuspecting. Among these victims,” she says, “are our aging parents who very often are lonely and bored.” She continues, “Even if caring for your aging parent(s) is a top priority, unless you live nearby, which many adult children do not, it is easy for aging seniors to become bored. When they do, they often are lured into the excitement of playing lotteries, enrolling in sweepstakes and talking to scammers who call on the phone.”
Collier shares statistics, writing, “According to the U.S. Postal Inspectors, more than 1,000 suspects are arrested each year for fraud conducted vial the mail.” She continues, “They also state that, “Although people 60 and older account for 26 percent of all telemarketing fraud victims, 60 percent of people in that age group are victims of prize or sweepstakes fraud.”
According to Collier, “It’s important to make sure our aging parents have more than one source of social interaction.” She adds, “Of course, parents prefer the company and attention of their children.”
