Tax Resolution Attorney John P. Willis Warns Taxpayers to Triple Check Returns and Avoid Common Mistakes
Tax resolution attorney John Willis, CEO and founder of IRSALLSTAR.com shares the common mistakes taxpayers make year after year, as reported by the IRS. He hopes to help more people avoid making mistakes so they can receive their refunds quickly and avoid audits.
Fairhope, AL, January 20, 2015: Tax Attorney John Willis, CEO and founder of IRSALLSTAR.com, recently published a new article on his website entitled “Avoid Making The Most Common Mistakes When Filing Taxes.” Being in a hurry to get a refund check can cause some of the most easy-to-avoid mistakes. As John Willis writes in his recent article, “Carpenters have a very practical saying. “Measure twice, cut once.” When it comes to filing tax returns there needs to be a saying to the effect of triple check if you want that check!”
Willis’s concern is for the unsuspecting taxpayer. He says, “Something needs to be done that might help people avoid continually making the same mistakes over and over again. Maybe this article will help.” He turns to an online article that lists the 10 most common mistakes and shares that list with his readers.(http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/incometaxandtheirs/tp/Ten-Most-Common-Tax-Mistakes.htm)
Willis advises, “Remember to go over your returns with a fine- toothed comb, because any mistake can delay a refund and could lead to – horror of horrors – an audit.” He also shares that, “According to the article, the most common mistake is the failure to sign and date the return!”
The last item on the list, which may be the silliest and most egregious, is, as Willis shares, the failure to file a return. According to the article from which Willis quotes, “Even if you don’t owe taxes to the government, you’ve still got to file a return if you earned an income. And if you are due a return? Bad news: Taxpayers forfeit refunds if they don’t file returns within three years.”
