Tax Advisor Barry G. Fowler Urges Caution Giving to Charities After Orlando Massacre

Barry G. Fowler, EA, leading expert in tax resolution issues and CEO of Taxation Solutions reveals the behavior of tax scammers after any national headline tragedy, pointing to the most recent mass murder in Orlando as the theme of  criminals looking to take advantage of grief stricken taxpayers around the country.

Houston, TX – July 21, 2016 – Barry G. Fowler, CEO of Taxation Solutions, posted a new article on his website entitled When Disaster Strikes Tax Scam Artists Go to Work. According to Mr. Fowler’s latest article, it seems that tax scammers surf national tragedies as if they were a perfect wave.

Barry FowlerFowler writes, “If the mass murder in Orlando last month wasn’t tragic enough, another group of criminals are now striking out to make an unthinkable situation even more heinous.” He continues adding, “If you’re considering donating money to a charitable organization to help the families of the Orlando Pulse victims, think twice before you give. There will be scam artists calling and reaching out in a variety of ways looking to take advantage of the heartbroken people around the country who want to help in some way.

When the heart is aching, it’s often difficult to forget about the brain. As Fowler advises, “Don’t let your heart override your head. Before you trustingly give to anyone who reaches out to you, do your research.” He elaborates, “Scammers often send e-mails that steer recipients to bogus sites that appear to be affiliated with legitimate charitable causes. Bogus Web sites may solicit funds for victims of this tragedy, frequently mimicking the sites of legitimate charities or claiming to be affiliated with legitimate charities.” “Or,” says Fowler, “make a personal commitment to only give to charities you know.”
