Orlando DOT Physical Provider and Workflow Employer Services Owner Dr. Brad Levine Publishes New Article Clarifying the CDL Physical Exam and the DOT Physical Exam
Dr. Brad Levine, Orlando Chiropractor, DOT physicals provider, and owner at Workflow Employer Services releases new article outlining the specifics about the CDL physical exam and whether or not it is the same as the DOT physical.
Altamonte Springs, FL — March 1, 2017 — Workflow Employer Services and DOT physical location owner, Dr. Brad Levine recently published a new article on his website “Creating Clarity About the CDL Physical Exam – Is it the Same as a DOT Physical or DOT Physical Exam?”
In the piece Dr. Levine starts off by providing some clarity regarding the CDL physical exam and DOT physical exam to answer the question of whether they are the same thing.
He begins by explaining that most commercial drivers require a DOT physical. He says, “Generally, when we talk about commercial drivers, we are talking about those who drive big trucks from state to state (interstate) with cargo. Of course, there are drivers who drive commercially in a local area and don’t cross state lines. CDL physical exam / DOT physical rules do not apply to those drivers.”
Further, he explains, “On the other hand, all commercial drivers who drive vehicles with a gross weight over 1,000 pounds interstate, must get a physical exam to get the Medical Examiner’s (ME) Certificate. This includes all commercial interstate drivers, even though not all these drivers are required to hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL).”
Summarily then, Dr. Levine states, they are basically the same thing. This is the case even though not all commercial drivers who will need a DOT physical exam and get an ME Certification will require a CDL.
From there, Dr. Levin explains the DOT physical process, including the Medical Examination Report and driver background questions. This form is brought to the physical appointment.
Dr. Levine also cautions that the driver must remember to carry the ME Certification with him or her at all times. Failure to do so could result in a citation.
