Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the SmileCreator of Naples, writes about the important role a healthy mouth health plays in disease prevention and proposes that oral health is particularly relevant in light of the current worldwide pandemic.

Naples, FL, April 21, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “How Excellent Oral Health Can Help You Fight Off Viruses,” in which Dr. Hernandez elaborates on important habits to include during the pandemic.

Dr. Nilo HernandezDr. Hernandez writes, “We are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic like humanity has never experienced before.” He continues adding, “COVID19 is in the spotlight and we must take the suggested behaviors about social distancing, handwashing and keeping hands away from the face seriously. However,” he states, “there are other habits that are not being talked about that can also make a big difference in protecting you and your loved ones from the virus.”

“As a dentist,” says Dr. Hernandez, “the more I thought about this situation, the more I became fixated on the role a healthy mouth can have in this global health challenge.” According to Dr. Hernandez, “The health of the teeth and gums are major factors to be considered in the positive or negative outcome of the disease transmission process. If teeth and gums are well maintained and healthy, you’ll have a much better chance of not trapping harmful bacteria or viruses.” He goes on to say, “However, when teeth have cracks, pits and faulty old dental work, and when gums are inflamed due to periodontal disease, then you are at a much higher risk of having contaminants stay in those crevices, and for longer periods of time.”
