New York Dental Practice Says Watch Out For The Hidden Dangers of Snoring

Dr. William P. Caldon, D.M.D., co-owner of Plattsburgh’s High Peaks Dental, explains why snoring, the seemingly innocuous nighttime annoyance, can actually have devastating effects on oral health.

Plattsburgh, NY — May 4, 2015 — Renowned Plattsburgh dentist Dr. William Caldon published a new blog post entitled “The Hidden Dangers of Snoring.” In the post, he tells readers how snoring also causes dry mouth, a condition which, left untreated, can lead to a host of dental problems including bad breath, gum disease, and tooth decay.

Says Caldon, “Snoring happens when the roof of the mouth, also called the soft palate, relaxes during sleep. The relaxed tissue can partially block the air entering through the esophagus, which results in those distinctive-sounding vibrations we call snores. But unless you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, the snoring itself isn’t dangerous — it’s the effect on the oral cavity that is cause for concern. Snoring is directly related to xerostomia, or dry mouth, which can have devastating effects on your teeth.”

Dr. Caldon has been a co-owner of High Peaks Dental since 1996 after serving in the United States Air Force for 20 years and retiring as a Colonel. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Louisville and his Bachelor’s from Thomas More College. In 2013, USA Today featured Caldon as one of America’s Premier Dentists.
