New Jersey Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Thomas Streko, On The Five Worst Foods For Your Teeth

Dr. Thomas Streko, D.M.D., Westfield cosmetic dentist, recently wrote about what not to eat and drink to keep your smile healthy.

Westfield, NJ. – October 11, 2010 – One of New Jersey’s leading cosmetic dentists, Dr. Thomas Streko, recently published an article on his website, www.DrStreko.com titled “The Five Worst Foods For Your Teeth.” In the article, Dr. Streko discusses some of the foods that we should try to avoid as much as possible to have the healthiest smile we can.  The five foods include candy and sweets, starchy foods, carbonated sodas, alcoholic drinks and lemons.

On candy and sweets, Dr. Streko writes, “When mom said candy would “rot your teeth,” she was right.  But only about some kinds of candy – the hard kind, like lollipops and cough drops, and the sticky kind, like caramels and gummy bears. But there is some good news for those of us who have a sweet tooth.  Chocolate is a fairly harmless indulgence, because the sugar in chocolate is mixed with fat, which doesn’t hang around in your mouth.

About alcoholic drinks, Dr. Streko explains, “Alcohol dries out your mouth, preventing saliva from doing its job of keeping surfaces clean.  Some medicines can also have the same effect.  So if you enjoy a drink or must medicate, be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
