Milwaukee Wisconsin Dentist Tony Cigno Publishes a New Article About Sedation Dentistry and the Root Canal
Tony Cigno, Wisconsin family dentist, details how sedation dentistry has made some of the more intensive dental procedures like the root canal less stressful.
Greenfield, WI — December 9, 2016 — Wisconsin Dentist Tony Cigno recently published an article titled, “Comfortably Numb: Sedation Dentistry and the Root Canal Procedure.”
Dr. Cigno starts off the article by talking about the very real phenomena of dental anxiety. He explains that it can be attributed to many factors such as the sound of the drill, the fear of pain, or even mild claustrophobia.
He then explains how sedation dentistry is a modern solution to the fear and stress some feel about dental visits and procedures. This is especially true, he contends, regarding the root canal.
As Dr. Cigno says, “The root canal procedure is often the brunt of many bad jokes. The thought of it can even evoke a feeling or sense of panic. I say that it’s like relationships, you always hear about the bad ones—not the good ones. Yet, it doesn’t have to be that way.”
Then he asks, “What if you could be ‘comfortably numb’ throughout the entire thing? In fact, what if you could maybe not even remember the root canal ever happened?”
From there, Dr. Cigno goes into more specifics about sedation dentistry and the two basic types used today – nitrous oxide and anxiety medications. Both have pros and cons depending on the level of anxiety and the type of procedure the patient is receiving.
He concludes the article by summarizing that the main deciding factor is to make the dental procedure experience more palatable for the patient. This, he believes, will help ensure people actually seek out – and get – the dental care and treatment they need.
