Jacksonville, Fla. – January 16, 2014 – Matt Collins, independent recording artist based in Jacksonville, Fla., was recently asked to perform two original songs for the inaugural episode of Swamp Radio Jax, a scripted variety series that draws from the songwriters, poets, playwrights and storytellers of the Jacksonville area to create an audio tapestry of the place many call home.
Swamp Radio aims to provide the Greater Northeast Florida area with a live radio experience (and podcast) that celebrates the culture, art, and history of Jacksonville and its surrounding areas. During its inaugural season, Swamp Radio will present a quarterly show. In addition to the thrill of live performance taking place at various locales in the Spark district, Swamp Radio will also establish a presence in the digital arena with a series of podcasts available to the public at no charge.
Matt Collins was the featured musical guest during Swamp Radio’s Fall Show. The show was performed and recorded to a sold-out audience on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Jacksonville. Matt performed 2 songs from his latest EP, The Nashville Sessions, Vol.1. Matt performed “It Takes a Little Crazy” and “Pretty Little Wrecking Ball.”
Show Creator and Executive Director Ian Mairs said, “Over the past three decades, I have been blessed to interact with a group of artists who also shared a passion for the sights and sounds of the Northeast Florida area. With this project, I am striving to present the residents of Jacksonville with a banquet table of those artist’s words and music which will the sustain the hunger we all have for art which defines our present experience.”
Swamp Radio‘s Fall Premiere episode lineup included Rich Campbell, Andrew Nance, Belinda Hulin, Bradley M Akers, Brandon King, Eva Matthews, Jim Draper, Kevin Bodge, Kevin Roberts, Lauren Fincham, Matt Collins, Maya Adkins, Simone Aden-Reid, Tiffany Melanson, Toni Philips, and Wayne Wood.
“I had such a great time performing with such an eclectic and talented group of local artists, poets and actors,” remarked Matt. “I have no doubt that Swamp Radio Jax will become a Jacksonville treasure as it gains steam in 2014. I hope to perform again on a future episode, but if not, you can bet I’ll be downloading and listening to every episode!”
