About Jeff Salzenstein:
Jeff turned professional and joined the ATP Tour immediately after his 1996 graduation from Stanford University, where he earned a B.A. in economics. He quickly rose through the ATP rankings while playing in all the Grand Slam events (Wimbledon, French Open, Australian Open and US Open). In 1997, Jeff was named Rookie of the Year by Tennis Week magazine. At the 1997 US Open, Jeff played a nationally televised 2nd round feature match against Michael Chang (then ranked No. 2 in the world), losing in four sets. In 2004, despite having two major surgeries in the first three years of his professional career, Jeff broke into the top 100 in the ATP rankings for the first time after eight years on tour. Jeff was the first American to accomplish this feat after his 30th birthday. At that time, Jeff was the 10th ranked American in the ATP world rankings, after such notables as Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, James Blake, Todd Martin, and Taylor Dent. Jeff’s academic and tennis excellence earned him an athletic scholarship to Stanford.
At Stanford, Jeff was named team captain his junior and senior years and played No.1 singles. He led the Cardinal to back-to-back NCAA national team championships, meriting all-American recognition in his junior and senior years in singles. Jeff received Stanford’s Senior Athlete of the Year award in 1996, and was a semifinalist in the NCAA singles championship in 1995.
