Bruno N. Cole MD, a cardio-thoracic surgeon who was on the beach in Sri Lanka in 2004 when the tsunami hit. After narrowly surviving himself, he looked down from a high floor in his hotel, seeing a landscape of corpses and hearing desperate screams for help. Amid the chaos and hysteria that followed, he heroically set up a makeshift emergency clinic and toiled to save lives, setting broken bones with sheets and smashed furniture.
