Founder of The Elder & Disability Law Firm, Victoria L. Collier Reveals 12 Phone Scams
Certified Elder Care Attorney, Victoria Collier, highlights 12 phone scams being played out around the country in time to help potential prey become aware and not become victims especially during the holiday season when many people are distracted and may be more vulnerable.
Decatur, GA, November 29, 2017: Victoria L. Collier, founder of The Elder & Disability Law Firm, has posted a new article on her law firm’s website entitled “Twelve Phone Scams To Beware of During The Holiday Season.” Ms. Collier doesn’t tell readers to let their guard down after the holidays, however she knows many are more vulnerable at this time.
Collier writes, “Most people think they can spot an impostor.” She continues adding, “However, according to an article in the November issue of AARP magazine, readers participated in a survey and the majority of those who took an “Impostor IQ” quiz failed.” She also provides the website where the quiz can be taken.
(You can take the quiz at www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork).
“Unfortunately the scam artists tend to get busy during the holiday season,” says Collier, “when people are distracted and more vulnerable.” She goes on to say, “The AARP article entitled, When a Con Man Calls, states that most people believe that frauds happen to other people. This is what, according to the article, experts call the ‘illusion of invulnerability’.”
According to Collier, “If anything, one needs to be more on-guard during the holidays. Few companies, if any, call and threaten their customers in order to get them to pay bills.” She adds, “Yet, the scam artists pose as a variety of professionals and use this tactic successfully in at least a dozen impostor scams that are playing out across the country. “
Collier provides a list of 12 scams and says, “The most important thing to remember is that no legitimate business and certainly no government agencies are going to call and demand money.”
