DNA Films, In Partnership with Operation Underground Railroad and Abundance Studios, Announces New Documentary, It’s Happening Right Here.
Orlando, FL – January 27, 2023 – DNA Films and Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) have partnered with Abundance Studios™ on a new documentary, It’s Happening Right Here, which shines light on the truth that child sex traffickers are infiltrating nearly every big city and small town in the United States, and that social media has only expanded predators’ reach. The film, from Emmy® Award Winning Director, Nick Nanton premieres January 31, 2023, on Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Vudu, and Fandango.
It’s Happening Right Here shows how O.U.R. and other non-profits are assisting law enforcement agencies across the country in the fight to end child trafficking. The film also shows how technology and social media have expanded the reach of predators through gaming and social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Roblox. Through interviews with law enforcement, technology experts, and survivors, topics like online grooming, sextortion, and trafficking risks are explored while preventative tools are shared.
“It can be a scary realization, but we need to open our eyes to what is happening and spread awareness to everyone, especially parents with young kids who have access to the internet,” said Tim Ballard, O.U.R. President and Founder. “I encourage everyone to watch the film to educate yourselves about how prevalent this crime actually is and how to spot it.”
The documentary includes interviews with survivors, including one girl who was trafficked starting at age 10 just a few blocks from her grandparent’s home. It also provides tips and suggestions for how parents can best protect their children while sharing warning signs to look out for.
“It’s Happening Right Here” was created and directed by Emmy Award winning director Nick Nanton, and Emmy® Award winning producers Nick Ruff and Katie Tschopp. “We want to show parents how their children are vulnerable to child sex predators no matter how much money they make, where they live or even if they think they are taking every precaution to keep bad people away from their homes,” said Nanton.
Country artist, RaeLynn, performs, “It’s Happening Right Here,” a companion song and music video that was written by Jeremy Bussey, Heather Morgan, Brock Berryhill, and Nick Nanton and produced by Berryhill. It can be viewed here.
