About Irene

Irene Nakamura is the founder and CEO of iDepo Reporters and iDepo Hawaii, LLC, a nationwide full-service, certified court reporting and litigation support company with offices in three states. Irene has built a nationwide team of more than 1,000 court reporters by offering a personal and professional work environment that treats every team member, client, or associate as an individual. iDepo is committed to personalizing and customizing services for each client. “We treat each case, no matter the size, as if it were our only one.”

Unwilling to be settle for the status quo, Irene broke the cultural mold of limiting beliefs from her traditional Japanese upbringing and its relegation of women to the background, to pursue her dreams. While providing financial support for her parents and brother and funding her brother’s Ivy League education, Irene bootstrapped her way through court reporting school. In the ten years that followed, she garnered a reputation that put her in high demand and allowed her to generate a six-figure income. She overcame racial bias by becoming the first Japanese American Official Court Reporter for the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

When a cancer diagnosis threatened her life, Irene faced it with the same tenacity she had the societal and cultural pressures leveled against her. She stared it down and won. Her diagnosis propelled her to make drastic changes in her life – leave a toxic work environment, end her selected marriage, and start and run her own 7-figure business.

The journey brought about a new clarity; one she channels not only into her personal life but also her professional life. “I am not merely a survivor; I’m a thriver.” Her battle with cancer gave her the power to step out of her comfort zone and tell her story, something she would have struggled with previously due to fear of judgment and anxiety. “Now I live my life for me, not merely doing things to please others.”

An out-of-the-box thinker, Irene is always looking for opportunities to empower others, especially women and minorities. She’s particularly proud of her culturally diverse iDepo team.

Irene’s non-profit work includes pro bono clinics for CASA Career Day, for children aging out of the foster care system, and Gardena Pioneer Project, a non-profit that provides services to Japanese Seniors. iDepo has supported the Hawaiian Paralegals Association, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Japanese American Bar Association, Asian and Pacific Islanders with Disabilities, National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms and many more.

Irene is an active member of the National Court Reporters Association.

iDepo provides litigation support services, including document retrieval, process service, subpoenas, stenographic court reporting, transcriptions, trial presentation, and legal videography, as well as translation and interpreter services. Like Irene, her company is resilient, responding to the ever-changing business landscape by offering remote training for legal professionals and providing moderators who deal with the logistics of remote legal proceedings, exhibit presentation, and technical issues.
