Best-selling author, time management expert, work life balance specialist and professional speaker Susan Sly publishes Valentine’s Day article revealing 3 steps to help couples improve their work life balance.
Scottsdale, AZ — February 16, 2017 — Best-selling author, work life balance speaker and expert, and entrepreneur Susan Sly recently published a new article titled, “3 Easy Steps to Finding Work-Life Balance for Couples – Our Valentine’s Wish for You and Some Companies that are Helping to Pave the Way!”
Susan starts off the article by discussing whether work life balance for couples is even possible. As she explains, many singles would be inclined to tell you, “No.” They often believe that being part of a “we” comes with a trade-off that centers around no longer having any kind of quality time for yourself. Thus, making work life balance much harder to even consider, much less achieve.
However, Susan counters, it doesn’t have to be this way. As she says, this idea is, “Wrong. Work-life balance for couples isn’t more difficult than it is for someone on their own, if both partners are committed to the cause!”
From there, Susan launches into the three specific steps to making work life balance for couples happen. The first step, she shares, is making a commitment to make work life balance a priority. Specifically, “As with anything you want to accomplish but that seems too large to tame, the first step to achieving harmony between all aspects of your life is making the commitment to do so. Then, it’s making the conscious decision to figure out where you are falling short and what options are available to you to remedy those situations. “
The next step she provides is identifying where your time is going and creating a plan for improvement. Yet, she reminds, “Very seldom does anything stay in true “balance”. There is always some give and take—balance is just the goal. A better idea may be to go for harmony.
Susan says, “[in lieu of balance] Harmony, on the other hand, is when nothing suffers but each side gives and takes in a dance of mutual appreciation and respect. Your work respects your family and your family respects your work. Each “knows” it’s necessary to leave a little slack in the line for the other. And even though one side sometimes pulls a little more than the other, with harmony, it still works and both feel attended to properly.”
Finally, for the last step, she advises the reader to take a cue from companies that DO provide the right environment for couples to thrive both personally and professionally.
