Balanced Living & Productivity Expert Susan Sly Publishes Conclusion to 2-Part Article Series Sharing the Importance of Protecting Your Productivity by Protecting Yourself Online
Best-selling author, time management expert, work life balance specialist and professional speaker Susan Sly publishes the informative conclusion of two-part article series outlining how our productivity is impacted by cyber threats and how to protect yourself.
Scottsdale, AZ — March 9, 2017 — Best-selling author, work life balance speaker and expert, and entrepreneur Susan Sly recently published part 1 in her protecting yourself online series titled, “Why You Should Protect Yourself Online – Guard Your Productivity with these Cyber Safeguards Part 2.”
In the last part of this series, Susan addresses how specifically to protect yourself from the online dangers presented in part one.
The first step she covers is protecting your productivity through using good and unique passwords. She concedes that many people fall short here because remembering many different passwords – in random combinations of letters (capitalized and non-capitalized) and symbols – can feel impossible. However, she offers a remedy for that by providing tools that store all your passwords under one single, central, log in that unlocks the individual password when you visit the corresponding site.
Susan also gives specifics on why you shouldn’t ever share passwords—even on “harmless” sites like movie subscriptions that may be used by other family members or even kids. Teens especially, are notorious for sharing this information and can risk much more sensitive data by doing so. To combat this, Susan suggests a unique email and password for these accounts and using a prepaid debit or credit card as the payment source.
From there, Susan outlines why you should change your password often and log out of financial sites when you aren’t using them, even at home.
However, perhaps one of the most interesting pieces of advice she gives pertains to checking your privacy on all social media, including photo sharing sites. And making sure mother’s maiden name (explained in part 1) is not ever used in your financial account security questions.
Finally, she cautions, the bottom line is just to watch what you say (or write) and where you say (or write) it. This includes where you are, where you are going, vacations, etc. Of course, there will be times when you want to share this information. The key is just being aware of when you are doing so and who all is going to see it. As Susan says, “While you can never protect yourself online completely, the steps above should definitely help you be safer. Since dealing with a breach in any of these areas can be a huge productivity zapper, safer is better than nothing and infinitely better than “sorry.”
