Edison, NJ – Feb. 27, 2018 – Matthew Patella and Dr. Connie Ducaine, End-of-Life Care Experts, were recently featured guests on Times Square Today. The show, which filmed in New York City overlooking Times Square by an Emmy Award winning crew, included guests from around the country who shared their expertise and stories of their success. Matthew Patella and Dr. Connie Ducaine were two of the guests on the show, discussing Vital Decisions and advanced illness care.
Mr. Patella’s and Dr. Ducaine’s expertise in the Healthcare industry led to an invite on the set of Times Square Today to educate viewers on the importance of patient centered care and being a proactive participant in one’s care. Their work changes the lives of patients by teaching self-advocacy, pairing them with the correct clinical specialists, and putting the patient back in control of their medical situation. Their feature has been seen by viewers across the country, and has undoubtedly inspired many.
Vital Decisions specializes in Advance Care Planning Behavioral Science, offering a Personal Advanced Illness Decision Making Program. Matthew Patella said, “It’s critical with end of life to get to people when they are ready to be motivated towards behavior change. If caught too early, it may not be the right time to have these conversations. If we catch them too late it’s highly unlikely we’re going to move the needle on both improved quality of care as well as ultimate cost savings.” Dr. Connie Ducaine added, “We’re also very specific in what we’re working with patients on. So we’re working with them on appreciating the value in actually doing this first of all, getting clarity around what they want as a person, how that informs their decisions and then who they need to tell their decisions to, because a decision that is in one’s mind, but not verbalized can’t be acted on.” Vital Decisions helps 30,000 people every year, while also removing close to a quarter of a billion dollars a year from the health care delivery system, all while also improving the quality of care for patients and their families.
