The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Founder, Victoria L Collier, Provides Questions Adult Children Caregivers Can Use To Ease Into Otherwise Difficult End Of Life Discussions

Estate & Asset Protection Attorney, Victoria Collier offers conversation starting questions to slip into casual gatherings before any health crisis arises in order to determine parents’ values and desires for end of life care.

DECATUR, GA, April 17, 2019: Victoria L. Collier, founder of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new article on her law firm’s website entitled “A Guide To Asking Your Aging Parents End Of Life Questions,” in which Ms. Collier helps adult children ease into an often difficult topic.

Victoria Collier“So,” begins Collier, “how do adult children address these end of life issues with parents who may be extremely private?” She adds, “More importantly, how do you approach your parents with these kinds of questions long before a health crisis happens?”

According to Collier, “It helps to have a general idea of questions you can ask casually that might lead to a deeper conversation. If you keep the topic lighthearted, and once again before any serious health issues occur, it will probably be easier for you and your loved one.”

Collier provides a list of questions as a guide. They are as useful to the one posing the question as to the one being questioned. And, Collier makes the point of being casual and lighthearted in the asking. For instance, “If I begin to have difficulty with cooking, cleaning and other household responsibilities, I would like to: a) Move in with Family, b) Remain in my home with home-based services to help me, or c) Other.”

Collier goes on to add that, “Learning to ask questions of our parents instead of assuming we know the answer is always a gentle way of getting to the bottom of fears.” She says, “Making easy conversation and asking loving questions that indicate your concern for your parents’ well-being as they age is a good practice. Starting sooner rather than later will establish a foundation for deeper exploration later when health issues arise.”
