Robert H. Sholly was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1938. A distinguished and highly decorated citizen-soldier, he retired as a colonel from the U.S. Army. As the first-born of a park ranger and his schoolteacher wife, Sholly was raised in national parks, lived in tarpaper shacks, and initially was home-schooled. He was then educated in a one-room schoolhouse with 12 other students of varying ages and grades. Because there was no high school available for park families, he attended high school in California, living with his grandparents.

More About Robert H. Sholly:

After high school, Sholly attended Texas A&M University for two years eventually joining the Army. During this time, the war in Vietnam became more active. Because of his training and patriotism, he felt compelled to volunteer for active duty with assignment to Vietnam. After his first tour of duty in Vietnam, he graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Masters Degree in History and English.

At the culmination of 35 years of service that included worldwide travel, Sholly retired as a highly trained and decorated U.S. Army Colonel. He was awarded the 1988 Nobel Peace Prize as a member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces, the Silver Star, three Defense Superior Service Medals and more, and is fluent in five languages. Utilizing his transferable skills from the military, Sholly entered the corporate world as a consultant and later became a project and general manager. He spent 15 years in various aspects of corporate life heading multi-million dollar projects in multi-cultural environments, retiring once more in 2006. Unable to “do nothing”, Sholly became an entrepreneur and a best-selling author, a life-time passion. He produced a memorable memoir of his first tour of duty in Vietnam that won 21 awards and achieved best-seller status.

Sholly enjoys hiking, racquetball, mentoring, writing and public speaking. He recently launched his fourth career, that of professional speaker. His aim is to share with others the benefits of his successes, so they may develop the skills to attain success in their own endeavors and have a rich tapestry of life.
