Tax Resolution Attorney, Jeffrey T. Jones Points Out the Requirements of the IRS Fresh Start Program for Individuals and Businesses

Tax resolution attorney Jeffrey T. Jones, founder of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” praises the IRS Fresh Start Program for the relief it offers law-abiding citizens.

Charleston, WV, October 13, 2014: Tax resolution specialist attorney Jeffrey T. Jones, founder of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” has posted a new article on his website entitled “It Isn’t Often the IRS Gives Anyone a Fresh Start.”  Leniency from the IRS is unheard of, up until now. Generally the people you hear about in trouble with the IRS are thought to be criminals willfully attempting to avoid paying their taxes. However, a multitude of regular taxpayers have found themselves in trouble.

Attorney Jones sympathizes with hard working citizens faced with IRS troubles. He says, “The IRS did the right thing to help law-abiding citizens avoid tax liens, levies and criminal charges.” He continues saying, “Recognizing that people wanted to pay their taxes but were unable to because they were merely trying to survive, the IRS finally developed the Fresh Start program that provides a different structure, allowing taxpayers to avoid financial reviews and Federal liens.”

The terms of the program vary depending on marital status and differ for individuals and businesses. Jones reviews the qualifying requirements for both. For starters, he points out that  “married couples filing jointly need to have only one spouse that meets the qualifications. If you are married, you must not earn more than $200,000 per year per couple, or $100,000 per year for individuals.” And, according to Jones, “The program is also limited to taxpayers whose tax balance did not exceed $50,000.”

Small business owners have recourse with the Fresh Start Program too. Jones refers to the “In-Business Trust Fund Express Installment Agreement (IBTF-Express IA), which he says is for owners of business that are still functioning and that owe $25,000 or less. Jones outlines the requirements, however ends by saying, “Some of the requirements are still difficult to meet and many taxpayers may be unable to pay off the debt. Life events certainly add to the problem. Age, illness and lack of education are the kinds of things that can make it hard to get or keep a job or obtain affordable credit of any kind.”
