Steve Sexton: From Cancer to Securing Your Retirement Needs

Temecula, CA – August 1, 2012 – While battling colon cancer in 2006, Steve Sexton suddenly realized the importance of having money tucked away for emergencies.

Thirty days before hearing the grave news of his cancer affliction, Sexton had just parted ways with one of his companies.  Fighting his way back from a six-hour surgery, where he almost did not make it through, Steve found out his former company would play a very small role in helping to pay his medical bills.

It was then that he decided to revamp his practice.

“I decided to pattern it around helping people find money that had fallen through the cracks,” he says. Today he’s healthy and cancer free.

Sexton is the President of the Sexton Advisory Group in Temecula, CA.  He has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry and holds multiple licenses.  Since starting his private practice, the firm has grown to include nine employees and has moved three times to accommodate increasing staff.

The firm offers portfolio management, retirement tax management, retirement income management, estate distribution planning, and legacy planning.

Sexton’s firm implores a three-step review process to evaluate each client’s needs.

“We have to get their financial house in order first before we can sell their physical house,” he adds.

Steve’s clients are mostly pre-retirees and retirees ranging in age from 45 to 101, with portfolios of $250,000 or more.

Sexton warns people of hidden fees and taxes.  Just because they think they’re getting a 10% return on their money; that may not be the case.  After taxes and other fees, the client might be getting only 4%.

It’s putting money in the right assets to avoid these fees that is the specialty of Sexton Advisory Group.

Life has taken a new meaning since his cancer battle, and giving back to the community has become a major part of Steve’s life.  He supports organizations like Ryan’s Reach, Hospice of the Valleys, and Rancho Santa Fe Rotary.

Sexton is also working on his first book, which will focus on the many areas of finding money before it falls through the cracks.
